Hyderabad: TGCCB refunds Rs 7.90 crore to victims
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) on Saturday facilitated the refund of Rs 7.90 crore to victims who lost money in cyber fraud. TGCSB Director Shikha Goyal said the bureau facilitated refund of money to victims in 2,973 cases during Lok Adalat held in the state on Saturday. She said Telangana is the first state in the country where the 1930 helpline managed by TGCSB is fully operational and it is a pioneer in freezing and recovering victims’ money from fraudsters’ bank accounts. “This success is a testimony to the prompt and coordinated action of the TGCSB call centre and NCRP monitoring officers wherever financial cyber crime is reported,” Shikha Goyal said. She said processing and refunding such a large number of cases in a single day through the National Lok Adalat is a historic milestone for the TGCSB. In March, the TGCSB and TGLSA successfully settled 803 cases through Lok Adalat, resulting in refund of Rs 1,000 crore. An amount of Rs 3,66,83,748 was disbursed to the victims.
Meanwhile, the bureau issued an advisory to citizens to protect themselves from cyber frauds. It asked people to not respond to calls or messages from unknown sources, avoid clicking on links received from unknown persons and protect their information by not sharing personal or banking credentials or OTPs. It also asked people to report any cyber crime by contacting the 1930 helpline immediately to increase the chances of getting back the lost money.
