GSUDA builds new gutter encroaching road, locals fear it will worsen Vasco’s traffic woes

The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has sparked outrage among Vasco locals after encroaching almost two metres of space on the road while building a gutter system behind the office of Mormugao Municipality. This stretch of road was previously used to park two-wheelers.

This ill-advised move has reduced the width of the road, and motorists now fear that it will lead to traffic congestion.

Furthermore, the locals have also questioned the need for a new gutter system when the existing Portuguese-era gutter was sufficient to drain the water during monsoons.

Instead of cleaning and repairing the existing system, the GSUDA has undertaken the costly and unnecessary task of building an entirely new gutter.

Social worker Chandrashekhar Vast warned that if concrete blocks are put up on this gutter, it will give rise to more questions.

The renovation of the Mormugao municipal office building is almost complete, and the classes at the municipal school have already resumed. The office work of the municipality is expected to resume here soon. However, the GSUDA’s haphazard construction work has raised eyebrows and cast doubt on their decision-making abilities.
