Telangana: Locals are angry with the governor’s approval
Bhadrachalam: The people of Bhadrachalam were eagerly waiting to know what decision the Chief Ministers of both the Telugu states would take regarding the merger of five panchayats separated from here and merged in Andhra Pradesh, but on July 6, the people were shocked when the Governor approved the bill to divide Bhadrachalam Major Panchayat into three Gram Panchayats. The local people are angry about this decision and they feel that the government is playing with them. They say that this decision will block the development of Bhadrachalam and local problems will increase. The people of the city have been worried for some time about the division of Bhadrachalam into three panchayats. Along with them, leaders of CPI, CPM, Congress and tribal community are also opposing this decision. However, with the approval of the Governor, the hopes of the people have been dashed once again. People believe that is the will of the people worth accepting three panchayats under any circumstances? There are concerns being raised that it is not appropriate to end the identity of Bhadrachalam, which is important for spirituality and tourism across the country. Given the importance of Bhadrachalam Devasthanam, the government should reconsider and keep it a single panchayat. Also, people are demanding to do justice to tribals and non-tribals and hold discussions to recognize it as a special authority area under tribal laws. When the previous BRS government introduced this bill a few years ago, recall that all parties except the ‘Pink Leaders’ opposed it. Then Congress MLA Podem Veeraiah fought hard to keep Bhadrachalam a single panchayat. The Governor and ministers were questioned together. Meanwhile, the division issue is likely to become a big problem for the Congress as ministers from the combined Khammam district including Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramka play important roles in the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government.
