Hyderabad: 6 organs of 27-year-old brain dead victim donated

Hyderabad: The family of a 27-year-old man who was declared brain dead after an accident donated his organs under the Jeevandan organ donation initiative. Mettu Praveen, a private employee from Peddamallareddy village in Kamareddy district, collided with a parked vehicle and fell while returning home on his bike on July 9. He was rushed to a private hospital in Kompally and later shifted to Malla Reddy Narayana Hospital.

When his condition did not improve after four days of treatment in the ICU, doctors declared him brain dead on Friday. After a series of grief counselling sessions by Jeevandan coordinators, his wife Mettu Rekha and his sister consented to organ donation and six donor organs were extracted and allocated to patients.
