Bhopal: Women wearing tiger masks are tying rakhi to men

Bhopal: The management of Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) created awareness about protection and promotion of tigers on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. On this occasion, women in villages and small towns around the reserve tied rakhis to men wearing tiger masks. In a post on X on Monday, PTR said that this is the third consecutive year that Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated in 130 villages and small towns adjoining the reserve. “For the third consecutive year, Pench Tiger Reserve is celebrating Raksha Bandhan as Tiger Conservation Day in a unique way,” the post said. “Continuing the tradition, we are celebrating Tiger Conservation Day by tying rakhis to villagers and society wearing tiger masks in 130 villages and some small towns near the tiger reserve and in Seoni and Chhindwara district headquarters,” the post said.

It said that this time the rakhi symbolises protection of tigers and wildlife. It said, “Just like a sister ties a rakhi to her brother for his long life and safety, we all have promised to protect our forest – tigers and other wildlife.” PTR said this unique Raksha Bandhan is not just a festival but a pledge to protect the forest and wildlife. PTR shared a video in which women wearing tiger masks tied rakhis to their brothers.
