Hyderabad: Drunk motorist attempts self-immolation

Hyderabad: A drunk bike rider immolated himself at the Tondupally toll plaza in Shamshabad outskirts on Tuesday night. The man, Shiva Kumar, a resident of Mylardevpally, had a criminal record earlier. He was driving the motorcycle and was found to be drunk during a special drive against drunk driving by the traffic police. His BAC was 157.

Police said Shiva was instructed to call someone to take him back home. However, he argued with the traffic police and left, but later returned and set himself on fire. Policemen present at the spot rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be stable. Shamshabad police have registered a case against Shiva for obstructing government employees from performing their duties and attempting suicide.
