26 workers from Chhattisgarh stranded in Karnataka, accused of being held hostage

Mohla-Manpur. The incidents of Chhattisgarh labourers being held hostage and forced to work in other states are not stopping. Recently, 36 labourers from Mohla-Manpur were rescued from Maharashtra. Now again a case of 26 rural labourers from this district being made to work as bonded labourers in Karnataka has come to light. The labourers have made a video and sent it to their villagers, requesting for help.

26 villagers, including 15 women and 11 men, from the villages of Halamkodon and Mohgaon in the Naxal-affected and tribal-dominated Mohla-Manpur district have been held hostage in Karnataka’s Belhongal area. Family members and villagers said that the so-called contractor Uddhav Shri Kishan Tidke, a resident of Nanded, Maharashtra, had taken these labourers in the name of labour.

On the matter, Mohla-Manpur Collector Tulika Prajapati said that necessary action is being taken by discussing with the Superintendent of Police to release the labourers held hostage in Karnataka.
