Jalandhar: Man dies due to excessive drinking
Phagwara: A resident of Mehatpur died due to excessive consumption of alcohol and cold. The deceased has been identified as Sajan, a resident of Mohalla Chopra. The deceased’s father Balkar alias Toti told the police that his son died due to excessive consumption of alcohol and sleeping outside in the cold. The police handed over the body to the family after post-mortem.
Five booked for attempt to murder
Phagwara: Mehatpur police have booked five persons for attempt to murder and firing. Gurdeep Singh, a resident of village Bangiwal, complained to the police that the accused opened fire to kill him and his family members late on January 3. He said that old rivalry was behind this attack.
Woman drug smuggler arrested
Phagwara: Mehatpur police have arrested a woman drug smuggler for selling poppy. Investigating officer Gurnam Singh said that 5 kg poppy has been seized from the possession of the accused. The accused has been identified as Gurnam Kaur of Kaimwala village.
Case registered against 14 for assault
Phagwara: Police have registered a case against 14 persons including three women for allegedly attacking a woman. The accused have been identified as Baljit Kaur of Kania Kalan village, another woman Bunty of the same village and their 11 companions. Gurbakhsh Kaur of the same village complained to the police that the accused stopped her on the way and assaulted her and threatened her with dire consequences.
Lawyers observe no-work day
Nakodar: On the call of Bar Association Samrala and Khanna, members of Bar Association Phagwara observed “no-work day” on Thursday. The association condemned the heinous attack on Hassan Singh, a member of Samrala and Khanna Bar Association. Lawyers Lalit Chopra and Munish Sareen condemned the failure of the police for not registering an FIR till date.
Shots fired on car, case registered
Hoshiarpur: Tanda police have registered a case against unknown accused for firing on a car with the intention to murder. Navdeep Singh, a resident of Dhirowal in Batala district, told the police that he was going to the village from Pul Pukhta in a car with his friends. Some of his friends were also with him in another car. He told the police that an unknown person fired five bullets at his car with the intention of killing him. The police have registered a case.
One person arrested with heroin
Hoshiarpur: Police raided a house in Mohalla Dashmesh Nagar and recovered 265 grams of heroin and arrested an accused. He has been identified as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar.
