Punjab: South Western Command celebrates 77th Army Day

Punjab: To commemorate the 77th Army Day, the South Western Command of the Indian Army organised a series of events at Sriganganagar, Suratgarh, Bikaner, Bhatinda, Hisar, Kota and other military stations in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Aimed at honouring the bravery and sacrifices of the soldiers, the events included “Know Your Army” fairs, equipment display, fun runs, peace marches, visits to war memorials, quizzes, competitions and interactions with NCC cadets, veterans and Veer Naris. Samman ceremony and Sustainable Milaap activities were also organised to commemorate the day. Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, Army Commander, Sapta Shakti Command paid tribute to the martyred soldiers by laying a wreath at Prerna Sthal at Jaipur Military Station.

In his address, the Army Commander extended greetings to all ranks, defence civilians, veterans and their families. He interacted with the personnel and appreciated their unwavering commitment, courage and devotion to duty. He also emphasised the pivotal role of the Indian Army in nation building and achieving the goal of “Developed India”. On this solemn occasion, he urged everyone to rededicate themselves to their duty towards the nation. Army Day, celebrated on January 15, marks the historic moment in 1949 when General KM Cariappa became the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, succeeding General Sir FRR Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief. The day serves as a tribute to the sacrifices and bravery of Indian soldiers, both past and present, and showcases the readiness and strength of the Army. The Indian Army is transforming into a modern, technologically superior force, ready to meet the challenges of the ever-changing security landscape, while remaining committed to the security of the nation with courage.
