Jalandhar: Police strict on traffic violations before Republic Day
Jalandhar: With Republic Day celebrations approaching, Jalandhar police has intensified its efforts to ensure safety of people through targeted drives and security drives. A special drive against eve-teasing and traffic violations was carried out between January 10 and 14 near Sai Das School and HMV College under the supervision of ACP-Central Nirmal Singh. The drive was focused on areas frequented by students. It was aimed at curbing misbehavior and enforcing traffic rules. 300 vehicles were checked during the drive, resulting in 38 challans being issued for various violations. Four motorcycles were also seized. Common violations included triple riding, driving without helmet, underage driving, driving without number plates and using modified motorcycles.
Also, search operations were also carried out at Jalandhar bus stand and nearby areas to strengthen public safety. Under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, this massive operation saw the deployment of 100 police personnel, anti-sabotage teams and advanced surveillance equipment like CCTV cameras and sniffer dogs. Besides, passengers, buses and luggage were checked to identify illegal items including banned plastic kite threads and prevent any security threat. Identity documents were checked as part of a comprehensive effort to maintain security. CASO also focused on crowd management, especially during peak hours, with the police working closely with transport officials to ensure smooth operations. Police officials said these operations reflect the police force’s dedication to proactive security and discipline enforcement, especially for women, students and commuters. They said by tackling both violations and potential threats, the police aim to create a safe environment for the public during the Republic Day celebrations.
