Flu cases are on the rise: Vaccination is essential to protect yourself

Tamil Nadu: Doctors have reported an increasing number of people suffering from seasonal flu and respiratory infections across Tamil Nadu.
They advised that children, the elderly, and those with comorbidities are particularly vulnerable to such effects, and face masks and vaccination are essential to prevent them.
Regarding this, public health specialist Dr. Farooq Abdullah said: Respiratory tract infections, known as RSV, and influenza-related complications are more likely to affect people with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms such as difficulty breathing, fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, chills, vomiting, and diarrhea should not be ignored. If necessary, X-rays, sputum tests, and blood tests should be conducted to rule out pneumonia or other complications.
He added that respiratory tract dilators and cough suppressants can be taken based on a doctor’s prescription. The elderly, those with comorbidities, and those with weakened immune systems should wear face masks when in public.
Impact on children: Meanwhile, regarding the impact on children, pediatric specialist Dr. Vilvanathan said:
It’s common for infections like fever, colds, sore throats, and lung infections to increase with the change of seasons. In this regard, RSV and influenza have also increased in the past few weeks this year.
