21 Killed In Spain After Two High Speed Trains Derail

A serious train accident has occurred in Spain. Two high-speed trains collided with each other in the Adamuz region of Cordoba province. At least 21 people were killed in the accident. More than 100 others were injured. 25 of them are in critical condition.
A Renfe train traveling from Madrid to Huelga was hit by an Irúa high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid, railway officials said. The accident occurred at 6:40 p.m. (local time) on Sunday. The Irúa train derailed and hit a Renfe train traveling on the opposite track. The force of the collision caused the two front coaches of the Renfe train to derail and fall into a four-meter-deep pit. There were more than 300 people on the Irúa train at the time of the accident, while there were about 100 passengers on the Renfe train.

The military, fire brigade and emergency services were called to the scene after receiving information about the accident. Rescue operations are still ongoing. Officials said that some more people may be trapped under the rubble. It is expected that the death toll may rise further.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed shock over the train accident. He said that a full investigation has been ordered into the accident. Meanwhile, Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente said that the causes of the accident are not yet known. He said that it is surprising that the accident occurred on a straight track.
