Theppam festival flag will be hoisted tomorrow at Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple

Tamil Nadu: The flag hoisting ceremony for the Theppam Festival will take place on Wednesday (January 21) at the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai.
This world-famous temple traditionally celebrates the Theppam Festival on the full moon day of the Thai month every year. Therefore, this year’s festival begins on Wednesday (January 21).
The flag hoisting ceremony will take place between 10:05 a.m. and 10:29 a.m. Additionally, the Meenakshi Sundareswarar and Pancha idols will be paraded through the four streets of Chithirai every morning and evening. Special events: On the 6th day of this festival, January 26th, there will be a historical drama depicting the founding of Shaivism. On the 8th day, January 28th, there will be the Machchhakandiyar wedding scene. On the 9th day, January 29th, there will be the Swami’s departure in the Saptavarna Sapparam. On the 10th day, January 30th, there will be the Theppam Muttuthallulam event. And on the 11th day, January 31st, there will be a harvest festival.
The main festival, the Theppathi Festival, takes place on February 1st. During this festival, the Pancha Murthys, along with the Swami’s departure and Amman alone, leave the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple early that day and proceed to the Mukteswara Temple opposite the Theppakulam in Vandiyur.
After special abhishekam and aradhana, Swami and Amma will ride in a tableau at Vandiyur Theppakulam to bless the devotees. This tableau will circumambulate the tableau, decorated with electric lights, twice in the morning and once at night. Then, at midnight that same day, the procession will proceed to the temple.
The festival is being organized by Rukmini Thyagarajan, Chair of the Trustee Committee, N. Suresh, Joint Commissioner of the temple, and the trustees.
