Former AIADMK MP seeks Rs 1 crore compensation in case, orders Edappadi Palaniswami to respond

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai High Court has ordered party general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami to respond to a defamation case filed by former AIADMK MP K.C. Palaniswami seeking ₹1 crore in damages.
In a petition filed in the Chennai High Court, former AIADMK MP K.C. Palaniswami stated that in 2020, Sulur union secretary Kandavel filed a police complaint against him for allegedly collecting money from fake AIADMK members.
Kandavel filed this complaint against him at the instigation of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested me. I spent 19 days in jail and later came out on bail. Later, I filed a case in the Chennai High Court seeking to quash the case.
The High Court hearing the case accepted his petition and ordered the case to be dismissed. It had said that Edappadi Palaniswami and Kandavel should be ordered to pay Rs. 1 crore in damages for the mental anguish caused to me by spreading defamatory material that tarnishes my reputation.
The case came up for hearing on Monday before Judge P. Dhanapal. The judge hearing the case ordered Edappadi Palaniswami and Kandavel to respond to the petition and adjourned the hearing.
