National Lok Adalat: 1.3 Lakh Cases Disposed of in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: On Saturday, 103,366 cases were settled during the National Lok Adalat held in Tamil Nadu, and victims received compensation amounting to ₹1,034.93 crore.
The Lok Adalat—also known as the ‘People’s Court’—is organized four times a year at the national level to facilitate the speedy disposal of long-pending cases across courts throughout the country.
In line with this initiative, Lok Adalats were organized across the entire nation on Saturday. The Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority conducted this National Lok Adalat.
In this regard, S. Balakrishnan, Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority, stated: “In accordance with the directives of the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, S.A. Dharmadhikari, the National Lok Adalat was organized in Tamil Nadu under the supervision of Senior High Court Judge R. Suresh Kumar.”
A total of 516 benches were constituted, including seven benches presided over by Madurai High Court Sessions Judge P.P. Balaji, and retired judges D.N. Vallinayagam, A. Ramamoorthy, G. Sokkalingam, M. Jayapal, P. Gokuldas, and A.R. Ramalingam. Additionally, judges from district and taluk-level courts (including those from criminal tribunals) also presided over these benches.
These benches heard various types of cases pending before the courts, including motor vehicle accident claims, cheque bounce cases, labor-related disputes, cases involving the Electricity Board, and maintenance (alimony) cases.
Of these, 103,366 cases were settled through dialogue and mutual consent between the concerned parties. He further noted that, as a result of this process, victims received compensation totaling ₹1,034.93 crore.
