LPG crisis in Telangana puts pressure on daily expenses and businesses

Nizamabad: Disruptions in LPG supplies and sharp increases in cylinder prices due to the ongoing Gulf War have impacted businesses and daily life in Telangana’s districts. Hotels and tiffin centers have reported rising operating costs and closures.

Over the past few days, this shortage has impacted both domestic and commercial supplies in rural and urban areas. Many hotels in Nizamabad, Bodhan, Armoor, Kamareddy, and Yanaswada have either closed or increased food prices.

According to records, 536,319 LPG cylinders and 3,419 domestic connections have been supplied in Nizamabad district. The official price of a commercial LPG cylinder is ₹2,150, but cylinders are reportedly being sold in the open market for ₹4,500 to ₹5,000. Traders said they are being forced to pay higher prices to continue operating. Enforcement officials have noticed this increase.

Rajendra said, “They have to buy LPG cylinders at higher prices to run their businesses.” He added, “Prices at breakfast tiffin centers have also increased; an idli plate has gone up from ₹35 to ₹45.”

Some establishments have adopted alternative cooking methods, including using wood and old stoves. Many other establishments are closed due to the lack of LPG cylinders, making it difficult for people to get food, especially in the morning and evening.

M. Srikanth Reddy said that this shortage has significantly impacted commercial use. He said, “Only 20 percent of LPG cylinders are being supplied for commercial use,” and added that domestic supply has also been affected.

He said that commercial cylinders used to be delivered within two days, but now the waiting time has increased to almost a week. “The government is closely managing the situation to prevent any disruption in cylinder supply,” he said.
