gold smuggling case accused swapna suresh appeared in kerala court in fake degree certificate case
Thiruvananthapuram (IANS) | Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, appeared before a local court on Wednesday in connection with the fake degree certificate case. In August last year, a team of Kerala police officers arrested a man from Punjab for forging and forging degree certificates for Swapna Suresh.
He used this certificate to get a plush job at the state-run Space Park with the help of his close friend M. Sivasankar and former Principal Secretary to jailed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Swapna was arrested by an NIA team in July 2020 on charges of gold smuggling from Bengaluru. Around the same time, news came that Swapna had not even passed class 10, but had managed to obtain a degree certificate from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University. It was alleged that he used this certificate along with his influence with high ranking officials like Sivasankar to get a plush job in the IT department headed by CM Vijayan.
A case was registered against him, but the case did not last long. Last June he made some revelations that CM Vijayan, his wife and daughter were involved in gold smuggling, police are probing cases related to them. The police team reached Punjab and took Swapna’s certificate maker into custody.
Since then, the police is working swiftly in the case, which will be heard by a local court on May 29.
