Low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal likely to intensify, rain alert issued in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has reported that the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further on Wednesday, May 13th. In a press release issued on Monday, the department stated that the system is active in the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the northern Sri Lankan coast, and is currently located there.
According to the Meteorological Department, a broad low-pressure trough is developing from the center of this low-pressure system, extending through southern Tamil Nadu to the southern Lakshadweep region. This has led to an activation of atmospheric circulation in the southeast Arabian Sea and the Lakshadweep region along the Kerala coast.
Due to this weather activity, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected at isolated locations in southern Tamil Nadu, delta districts, and the Karaikal region on Tuesday, May 12th. The Meteorological Department also stated that cloud activity will remain elevated in these areas, and the weather may remain unstable.
Chennai and its surrounding areas are expected to experience partly cloudy skies. Light rain may also occur in some parts of the city, leading to a slight drop in temperatures.
The Meteorological Department has also forecast that light rain is likely at one or two locations in the Western Ghats districts, delta regions, and Karaikal on Wednesday and Thursday, May 13th and 14th. While heavy rainfall is not currently anticipated, weather changes will continue.
The department has also indicated that rainfall conditions may change in the coming days depending on the intensity and direction of this system. People living in coastal areas are advised to monitor weather updates.
Overall, this low-pressure system active in the Bay of Bengal is likely to impact the weather in Tamil Nadu and surrounding areas for the next 48 hours.
