Odisha: Government announces Rs 1.08 crore assistance for Sitala Shashthi festival

Odisha: The Odisha government has announced financial assistance of ₹1.08 crore for the famous Sitala Shashthi festival held in Sambalpur district. This decision was taken with the aim of promoting the state’s cultural traditions and encouraging local festivals.
According to government information, on the instructions of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department has been entrusted with the responsibility of releasing financial assistance for this event. This assistance will be spent on various events of the Sitala Shashthi festival held in Sambalpur.
This year, a total of 21 different festival committees in Sambalpur will benefit from this funding, which will organize Sitala Shashthi events at their own level. This will help make the festival even more grand and well-organized.
The Sitala Shashthi festival is considered an important part of Odisha’s rich cultural and religious traditions. This festival is celebrated as a symbol of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion every year in Sambalpur.
State Culture Minister Suryavanshi Suraj stated on the occasion that Sitala Shashthi is not merely a religious festival, but a vibrant display of Odisha’s cultural heritage, traditions, and spiritual values. He stated that the state government is continuously striving to preserve and promote such traditions.
The minister also stated that this financial assistance will enhance the festival’s grandeur, which will not only increase local participation but also strengthen Odisha’s cultural identity at the national and international levels.
The government believes that supporting traditional festivals not only preserves cultural heritage but also boosts the local economy and tourism. Events like Sitala Shashthi play an important role in promoting regional art, music, and traditions.
