Call for participation on International Yoga Day; preparations underway for large-scale events in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Governor R.V.R. Laker has appealed to the people of the state to make yoga a part of their daily lifestyle and enthusiastically participate in the International Yoga Day celebrated on June 21. He said that Yoga is the most important and valuable gift given by India to the entire humanity, which helps in maintaining balanced physical and mental health.
In this regard, an official press release was issued by the Governor’s Office on Friday, in which emphasis has been laid on increasing public participation and preparations for International Yoga Day. This year the theme of Yoga Day has been kept as “Yoga for Healthy Aging”, which focuses on making people aware of health and longevity.
The release said that on June 21, educational institutions, government offices, industries, business establishments, NGOs and community groups should organize programs related to yoga across Tamil Nadu. Also, more and more people have been motivated to participate in these activities.
To promote public participation, the Governor’s Office in collaboration with Anna University has also launched a special online platform for International Yoga Day. Through this website, institutions and organizations can register as ‘nodal centres’ for yoga practice on June 21.
Apart from this, online participation certificates will also be provided to all the participants of the yoga training sessions, in an effort to increase enthusiasm and participation among the people towards yoga.
The Governor’s Office also informed that the institutions or groups who wish to organize programs on Yoga Day can register themselves on the designated website and act as nodal centres. This will make it possible to organize yoga activities on a coordinated and large scale across the state.
The aim of this initiative is not to organize just a one-day event but to inspire people to make yoga a part of their daily lives. Authorities believe that regular yoga practice reduces stress, keeps the body healthy and improves the quality of life.
