Bhubaneswar: Youth murdered, father and sister also attacked, police engaged in investigation

Odisha: A 20-year-old man was murdered in the capital, Bhubaneswar, early Monday morning. The man’s father and sister were also seriously injured in the incident. According to police, masked assailants entered the house and attacked him with iron rods. The three injured were immediately rushed to the hospital, where the man died during treatment. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Krishna Chandra Padhi alias Buddhi (20). He was a resident of Sorada in Ganjam district and was currently living in Bhubaneswar, pursuing his second year of +3 (undergraduate). The incident occurred near Kolathia Chowk in the Khandagiri police station area on Monday morning.
According to police, the deceased’s father, Himanshu Padhi (54), is a priest at a local temple. He tried to save his son during the attack, but the attackers also attacked him. Krishna’s sister, Tapasi Padhi, was also injured while trying to save her brother. Both were admitted to the hospital in critical condition. According to sources, Himanshu Padhi is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. He is reportedly in a coma, although an official medical statement is awaited.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena stated that preliminary investigations indicate the family had been living in a house built on a relative’s land along National Highway 16 in the Kolathia area for the past 20 years. No previous major attacks on the family have been reported.
According to police, the deceased’s mother passed away about a year ago. After this, the family was left with only the father, son, and daughter. All three were present at the time of the incident.
The DCP stated that, according to Krishna’s sister’s statement, two masked assailants arrived at their home between Sunday and Monday night. They entered the house and attacked Krishna with an iron rod. When the father and sister tried to intervene, they were also attacked. The accused then fled the scene.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police from the Khandagiri police station arrived at the scene and immediately rushed the three injured to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Krishna Chandra Padhi died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital. His father and sister are undergoing treatment.
Police inspected the scene and collected evidence. The forensic team also collected necessary samples from the scene. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is also being examined to identify the attackers. Police are questioning the family, relatives, and nearby residents to determine the motive behind the incident.
Officials say the motive for the murder has not yet been revealed. The investigation is being conducted considering all possible aspects. Police claim that special teams have been deployed to identify and arrest the accused, and every clue related to the case is being investigated.
Following this incident, an atmosphere of panic has gripped the area. Locals have demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits. The police have assured that considering the seriousness of the case, the investigation is being carried out at a fast pace and efforts will be made to reach the people involved in the incident soon.
