Iran seizes US submarine

Tehran: The Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Sunday that its forces had seized another “advanced smart” unmanned submarine belonging to the US military in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement released via the IRGC’s official news outlet, ‘Sepah News’, the Navy said that the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV)—which was conducting “espionage” activities in the Strait of Hormuz—was captured through a “coordinated and complex operation involving intelligence superiority and electronic warfare.”

It identified the AUV as a “REMUS 600” and stated that it has been handed over to experts for data recovery.

According to a report by Xinhua news agency, the Navy emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a restricted zone, stating, “We are taking decisive and continuous action against dangerous activities and unauthorized movements within the waterway.”

According to ‘Sepah News’, earlier this month, the IRGC had announced the capture of one of the US military’s “most modern, smart” unmanned submarines—identified as the “Dive-LD”—at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

On February 28, Iran had tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz, banning the safe passage of ships belonging to—or linked to—Israel and the US, following joint attacks launched by them against Iranian territory. Meanwhile, Iranian military commander Amir Hatami stated on Sunday that the war imposed on the country by the US and Israel is not yet over, and the “enemy” must still be prepared to face “heavy blows” from the Iranian armed forces.

According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Hatami said at a national ceremony in Tehran, “The war is not over… although the aggressive enemy has suffered heavy losses, it must still be prepared to endure even more crushing blows from Iran’s armed forces.”

He urged regional nations to understand that cooperation with the US does not guarantee their security, emphasizing that the countries of the region must safeguard their own security.
