Balod. A family living in Kosagondi, a small village in Balod district, witnessed a unique service regarding their attachment and upbringing of mother cow. He has so much love for cattle that he keeps them like his family in the house where he lives. Here beds are also made for the cattle. All the members of the family live among these cattle and take care and serve them throughout the day.. They have a total of 24 cattle. Everyone’s names have also been kept. They come running as soon as they hear their name.

As such, most of the villagers rear cattle in rural areas and this tradition has been going on since ancient times. Cow is considered to have its own importance. Even today, cows and bulls are reared in rural areas. Along with their care, they are also worshipped, but now with the passage of time, there is a decrease in cattle rearing. At such a time, even today a family of Kosagondi, a small village in Balod district, is in discussion about the unique service of mother cow. Farmer Pannuram Sahu and his wife Lalita Sahu, residents of village Kosagondi, located about 12 km from Gurur block headquarters, are devotees of Gaumata.

Pannuram Sahu and his wife Lalita Sahu have made a separate room in their house. Here, from morning till evening, mother cow is being served like children. Bed and clothes have also been arranged for mother cow in the room. He has 7 cows and 17 calves in his house i.e. total 24. He would take care of all the cows and calves like a family. They have also given different names to all of them and these cows are called by name and they also understand.

It was told that Pannu Sahu had brought a cow from his in-laws house and since then the husband and wife started serving this mother cow. With the passage of time, now the number of cattle in his house has increased to 24. Pannu Sahu’s son Evat Kumar Sahu and daughter-in-law Omeshwari Sahu also take care of the cow, that is, the whole family serves the cow. This family has 80 decimals of land, in which they cultivate paddy. Along with this, there is a tractor in the house, in which he goes to work in other places. However, in today’s era, it is very rare to see such love and nurturing of cattle in this way.
