Health Department conducts an intensive campaign to make Bastar district ‘Cataract-Free’
Raipur. In an effort to make Bastar cataract-free, the Health Department has initiated an intensive “Cataract-Free” campaign under which successful operations have been performed for 563 out of the identified 1392 patients. The special campaign commenced on May 15 this year covering all development blocks of the district. A survey of potential patients was conducted, confirming 1392 cases of cataracts among the examined 3512 patients. The survey work is still ongoing. Among the identified patients, 563 patients along with the initial 252 identified during the survey, have already undergone successful operations, relieving them from this condition.
Dr R.K. Chaturvedi, Chief Medical and Health Officer stated that the special campaign has been implemented in Bastar district with the aim of making the district cataract-free. As part of the campaign, a door-to-door campaign is being conducted to identify patients. Doctors from the Medical College Hospital and Maharani Hospital have been assigned the responsibility of ensuring timely operations for the identified patients. As part of this campaign, surgeries have been performed for 99 patients in Bakawand, 32 in Bastanar, 37 in Lohandiguda, 71 in Darbha, 63 in Tokapal, and 123 in Jagdalpur (Nangur). In the Bastar development block, operations have been completed for all the identified patients thus far.
