How does insulin resistance affect PCOD?
Every cell in our body is affected by insulin. Insulin is a hormone, which regulates the level of blood sugar in the body. In the female reproductive system, the ovaries contain insulin receptors. When the ovaries are functioning properly, the insulin level is normal, the secretion of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is also normal. Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a hormone that helps control periods and the production of eggs in women. On the other hand, high insulin levels in PCOS ovaries increase luteinizing hormone (LH) and the male hormone testosterone also increases. When the testosterone hormone increases and estrogen hormone decreases, the growth of the egg is affected and the cyst starts forming. Due to insulin resistance, the eggs are not able to develop properly and due to this the cysts start growing.
