Tiredness in the eyes of Ukrainians, fear in the eyes of Russians: Zelensky
Kyiv (IANS). Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has admitted that the retaliatory strike against Russia is going slow. A video was released by Zelensky’s office on Tuesday of remarks he made during a meeting with Latin American media outlets over the weekend, CNN reported.
Zelensky said, “But all this is secondary. In some places there are landmines, in some places there are technical difficulties, in some places we are waiting for a long time or there are other complications. We can discuss this for a long time.” ‘
“The direction of the counter-attack, what’s wrong with it, what do we have enough of, what do we lack.”
The President further said, “Retaliation happens when the army is attacking, not when it is retreating”.
“This is an important and positive moment,” Zelensky was quoted as saying in the video by CNN. This is the initiative of Ukraine. It’s hard to keep fighting for so long, that’s for sure. All this is very difficult when you lack this or that equipment. I know it’s hard for us but I certainly know it’s harder for the Russians.”
“While there is fatigue in the eyes of Ukrainians, there is fear in the eyes of Russians,” the president said.
As CNN reports, the primary challenge for Ukrainian forces is the continued difficulty of breaking through Russia’s multilayered defensive lines in the eastern and southern parts of the country, which are marked by thousands of landmines and a vast network of trenches.
Ukrainian forces have suffered heavy losses there, prompting Ukrainian commanders to halt some units to regroup and minimize casualties.
