FBI shoots down man who threatened Biden
Washington (IANS). A man who allegedly threatened US President Joe Biden ahead of his visit to Utah was shot during a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raid. This has been said in media reports.
The raid took place on Wednesday in Provo, about 65 km south of the state capital Salt Lake City, the BBC reported. FBI agents were attempting to serve an arrest warrant against the accused man, Craig Robertson, at his home hours before the president’s planned visit.
CNN quoted a law enforcement source as saying that agents were serving a warrant on the man when he pointed a gun at them.
The FBI has not provided any further details on the incident.
Robertson was facing three federal charges, including making threats against the president as well as influencing, obstructing and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers.
Investigators said it appeared that Robertson had “a sniper rifle” and several other weapons.
Some of the threats were made on Wednesday evening, just before Biden’s planned trip to Utah.
One threat read, “I heard Biden is coming to Utah.
“Taking off my old ghillie suit and dusting off my M24 sniper rifle. Welcome Buffoon-in-Chief.”
The US Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting high-level government officials including Biden, said it is “aware of an FBI investigation involving an individual in Utah who made threats to a Secret Service protectee”.
Robertson also posted online threats in recent months to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Vice President Kamala Harris, New York State Attorney General Letitia James, California Governor Gavin Newsom and New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Biden will now make his first trip to Utah as president on Thursday, including a visit to a veterans hospital and a fundraising event in Park City.
