Famous lyricist Dev Kohli, who wrote songs for films like ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and ‘Baazigar’, is no more

A bad news has come out from the film world. Famous poet and lyricist Dev Kohli passed away. Dev said goodbye to the world at the age of 81. Dev’s spokesperson Pritam Sharma informed about his death while talking to The Indian Express. He told that Kohli ji was running ill for the last few months and was admitted in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
He breathed his last in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday (August 26). Dev’s last rites will be performed at Mumbai’s Oshiwara crematorium today itself. Dev worked with many legendary music composers including Ram Laxman, Anu Malik, Anand-Milind and Anand Raj Anand. Dev wrote the lyrics for Salman Khan’s first blockbuster film Maine Pyar Kiya.
During his career, Dev wrote songs for more than 100 films like ‘Baazigar’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, ‘Taxi No. 911’, ‘Judwaa 2’, ‘Musafir’ among others. He wrote the last song ‘Mere Dil Ki Train Bulati Hai’ for actress Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Rajjo’.
Dev Kohli was born in Rawalpindi, started his career in 1969
Dev was born on 2 November 1942 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He shifted to Delhi in 1949. He spent his childhood in Dehradun. Dev started his career in the year 1969 with the film ‘Gunda’. Dev received the Filmfare Award for writing the song ‘Yeh Kali Kali Aankhen’ for Shahrukh’s film Baazigar. Anu Malik and Dev Kohli, the composers of this film, had a good friendship.
Anu was greatly influenced by his art of writing fast songs. Jindadil Insan Dev was so adept at writing songs that he used to write and prepare the mukhda in just 2-3 minutes. Even many times he used to write the entire song in the studio in just a few hours.
There are many such songs which he wrote in one go. It is worth mentioning that this is the third consecutive day when the entertainment world has lost a top class artist. On August 24, 81-year-old actress Seema Dev and on August 25, 53-year-old Milind Safai died.
