ED summons Kerala CPI(M) MLA Moideen
Kochi (IANS). CPI(M) MLA and former Kerala minister A.C. A day after Moideen expressed his inability to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 31, the investigating agency served another notice summoning him to its office on Monday.
According to sources, the ED investigation has revealed that Rs 150 crore was embezzled from the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank Limited in Thrissur, from where Moideen had worked as the district party secretary a few years ago.
On August 22, ED had raided Moideen’s Thrissur residence in a money laundering case.
Two days later, he was called for questioning at the investigating agency’s office on August 31, but he asked for a few more days.
But on Thursday morning, in a fresh notice, the ED asked him to appear before it on Monday with details of his IT returns for the last decade.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) and its party state secretary M.V. Govindan defended the top party leader, calling the August 22 raid “politically motivated” ahead of the Puthupalli by-election.
The surprising thing is that he has been asked to appear a day before the by-election.
Reacting to this, the Congress-led UDF said that the results of the by-elections will be the assessment of the second Pinarayi Vijayan government.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, former Karuvannur Bank manager Biju Karim and two other persons – both middlemen – were questioned by the central agency. The inquiry is going to continue on Thursday as well.
