Bengal youth gets death sentence for killing ex-fiancé
Kolkata (IANS). A special fast-track court at Berhampur in West Bengal’s Murshidabad on Thursday sentenced youth Sushant Chowdhary to death for brutally murdering his former fiancee Sutapa Chowdhary last year.
After fast-track court judge Santosh Kumar Pathak announced the sentence, the youth’s lawyer Sushant Chowdhary said he has pleaded for life imprisonment for his client.
“However, finally the court sentenced him to death. After getting the copy of the order, I will consult his family members and decide the next course of legal action in this regard,” he added.
A total of 34 people testified in the case, including parents, some journalists, an official of an e-commerce organisation, local traders from the area where the murder took place and the investigating officer of the case.
The woman was murdered on May 2 last year at around 6.35 pm while returning home. When she was returning home. The youth attacked him with a sharp weapon and attacked him several times.
As the locals tried to stop him, he threatened them with a fake pistol and fled the spot.
Later investigation revealed that he was in a relationship with the woman who later did not elope, leaving him angry.
The investigating officer filed the charge sheet 75 days after the incident. Police reports state that he inflicted 42 blows on the victim.
