Gang busted for robbing Indian, Asian jewelers in US
New York (IANS). The accused have been arrested while busting a gang of 16 people who terrorized and robbed Indian and other Asian jewellers. This information has been given by federal officials.
James Dennehy, special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Newark, said on Wednesday, “The suspects intimidated the store owners and employees and committed the robbery.”
FBI Assistant Director David Sundberg said the looted items are worth thousands of dollars.
The nine jewelry stores looted ranged from the New York suburb of Jersey City in the northeast, through Pennsylvania and Virginia, to Florida in the southeast, the indictment filed in Washington federal court said. .
Court documents describe the shops as “South Asian”, and of them, four are owned by people of Indian origin.
Court documents say the robbers identified and attacked South Asian jewelers.
According to the chargesheet, the gang carjacked or stole vehicles to carry out the robberies.
