Permission to operate boats till 8 pm

Varanasi. A meeting of people of Majhi community was held on Thursday in the office of Maa Ganga Nishadraj Seva Samiti. In this the problem of livelihood of sailors was discussed. The sailors demanded permission to operate boats in the Ganga from five in the morning to eight in the night. A letter was also sent to the District Magistrate regarding this. Told that due to not being able to show Ganga Aarti to the tourists, their income has reduced significantly. This has created a crisis of livelihood. In such a situation, the administration should allow boat operation till 8 pm. Vinod Kumar Nishad, President of Maa Ganga Nishadraj Seva Samiti, said that the district administration had imposed a ban on boat operation due to security reasons. After the flood water subsides, boat operation has been allowed from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Now the flood water level has reduced considerably and all the ghats have been connected to each other. The flow of Ganga has also reduced significantly. The boat operation is stopped by the administration at 6 pm, while the world famous Aarti of Mother Ganga takes place at Dashashwamedh Ghat, Shitala Ghat and Assi Ghat at 7 pm. Whereas the time of Subah-e-Banaras is five o’clock in the morning. Due to the boat operations being stopped even before the evening Aarti, tourists are not able to show Ganga Aarti.

This has created a crisis of livelihood. Said that at the time of Ganga Aarti, a huge crowd of tourists gathers at the ghats. There is danger from this all the time. There have been incidents of bomb blasts on the ghats in Banaras. In such a situation, keeping in mind the interests of the Majhi community, the administration should grant permission to operate boats in the Ganga from five in the morning to eight in the night. Said that a letter has just been sent to the District Magistrate. If the demand is not considered then we will meet the DM and complain.
