Jammu and Kashmir: Case registered against teacher for tearing hijab of student in Bandipora

Srinagar: A case was registered against a teacher on Tuesday for tearing the hijab of a student in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Official sources said that a student has lodged a complaint with the police. In her complaint, the student said that while she was sitting in the class, a teacher came to her and forcibly took off her hijab and tore it.

The student alleged that the same teacher had been harassing her and her classmates for some time but today he forcibly removed her hijab. The student said that she had earlier discussed the issue of harassment with her parents.

Sources said that on one occasion when the girl’s mother went to school regarding the matter, the accused teacher confronted her, shouted at her and questioned her presence on the school premises.

The student said that she had repeatedly reported the issue to the school principal and other staff members, but regrettably, no action was ever taken. A case has been registered against the teacher under Section 354 IPC and 9/10 POCSO Act at Bandipora Police Station and further investigation is underway. (IANS).
