Jharkhand Assembly will get leader of opposition after about three and a half years, BJP chose Amar Bauri as the leader of the legislative party

Ranchi (IANS). Finally, after about three and a half years, the way has been cleared for Jharkhand Assembly to get the Leader of Opposition. BJP, the largest opposition party in the assembly, has elected Amar Kumar Bauri as the new leader of the party legislature party. Now the party’s state president Babulal Marandi will formally inform the speaker about this. After this he will be declared Leader of Opposition.

Earlier, after the assembly elections held in 2019, BJP had elected Babulal Marandi as the leader of the party legislature party, but the Speaker did not recognize him as the Leader of Opposition. A few days after the election results, a complaint of defection was filed against Babulal Marandi in the Speaker’s Tribunal.

Actually, Babulal Marandi had contested the 2019 elections from his party Jharkhand Vikas Morcha instead of BJP and reached the assembly after winning. A few days after the election results, he merged his party with BJP. Regarding this, complaints of defection were lodged against him in the Speaker’s Tribunal.

The Speaker’s Tribunal also completed the hearing on these complaints, but has not yet given its decision. As a result, the issue of his recognition as Leader of Opposition was pending for about three and a half years. Now that the BJP has elected the new leader of the legislature party, the formalities of announcing the Leader of Opposition are expected to be completed soon.

To elect the new leader of the BJP Legislative Party, the central leadership of the BJP had sent a team of observers three months ago and conducted a secret poll among the party MLAs. On the basis of the observers’ report, the central leadership has approved Bauri’s name. Along with this, the party has appointed Jaiprakash Bhai Patel, who is considered a contender for this post, as whip.

Amar Kumar Bauri is also currently the state president of BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha. He reached the Assembly for the first time in 2014 by winning the election from Chandankiyari area of Bokaro district on JVM ticket. After this he joined BJP and was made the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs in the then Raghuvar Das led state government.

In the year 2019, he was elected MLA for the second time. Due to the post of Leader of Opposition remaining vacant in the state for the last three and a half years, appointments to important posts in more than a dozen constitutional institutions including the Information Commission and the Women’s Commission are pending. Appointments to these posts are decided through special selection committees, in which the Leader of the Opposition must be included.
