Gaza: A Palestinian spokesman has said the health system in the Gaza Strip has “completely collapsed” due to power cuts and a lack of fuel needed to run generators in hospitals.
Gaza-based health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told a press conference on Tuesday that Israeli strikes have so far killed 65 medical workers, destroyed 25 ambulances and damaged 12 hospitals and hospitals in the Palestinian territory, Xinhua news agency reported. 32 health centers have become inactive. “We fear that due to the attacks and fuel shortages, more (hospitals and health centers) will not be in a position to serve in the coming hours,” the spokesman said.
Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, firing thousands of rockets and sending its forces into Israeli territory. He also took more than two hundred people hostage. In response Israel carried out massive airstrikes and punitive measures, including a siege of the enclave along with cutting off supplies of water, electricity, fuel and other necessities.
The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has so far killed about 5,800 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and more than 1,400 in Israel.
