Sims Hospital filled with dirt and junk, Health Secretary angry
Bilaspur: Following the instructions of the High Court, Health Secretary P Dayanand stayed in SIMS Hospital for about 6 hours and inspected each department and wards and gave many instructions. They were angry after seeing dirt, bad smell and junk everywhere in the campus. The team of court commissioners appointed by the High Court also inspected Sims. The investigation reports of both will be presented in the High Court before the next hearing.
Health Secretary Dayanand observed that till 1.00 pm people were standing in queue to make slips. Upon learning that he had arrived at 9.00 am, and the OPD would be closed at 2.00 pm, he asked the officials to improve the system so that the patient could get examined on time. He found old boards and junk lying outside and inside many wards, which he instructed to remove and asked to keep the hospital clean. Seeing the dirt and smell of the toilet in the gynecological department, he asked the doctors whether they used it, the doctors replied that no. The Health Secretary asked how the patients would then use it. He also saw filth in the physiotherapy department.
While talking to the patients, the Health Secretary came to know that some people have been coming for two consecutive days, but even their blood samples could not be taken. He also discussed with Dr. SK Nayak, the new superintendent appointed after the removal of Dr. Neeraj Shinde and gave directions to improve the system. During inspection, it was revealed that there is a shortage of doctors in orthopedics. There is no fire safety system here. He asked the PWD officials to improve the drainage and fix the seepage of the walls.
