CPI members clash with police in Biswanath

A protest by members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) turned into a major incident as protesters clashed with local police. This incident happened in Bishwanath on Wednesday.

Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had protested in Biswanath on Wednesday regarding the ongoing war between Palestine and Israel. The protesters were demanding that the Israeli state immediately stop military action against Palestinian civilians. Biswanath police stepped in to stop the protest, leading to a clash between party members and police forces. The police were forced to take several protesters into their custody to control the situation.

It may be noted that while expressing solidarity with the victims of the Palestinian side of this war, the party members were demanding that the Israeli military allow free movement of humanitarian supplies and personnel to the affected area. He also drew attention to the lack of essential resources in the region due to this war and organized a day of solidarity with the victims.

Along with the rest of the units under the Assam state unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Biswanath unit responded to the call of the state committee to organize solidarity with Palestine Day to build public opinion against the ongoing violence. The protesters had gathered near the clock tower in Biswanath to protest when Biswanath police reached there to stop them.

This led to a clash between the officials present at the location and the police personnel, including the protesting members of the political party, due to which senior officials took several protesting members into their custody.
