Increase in export of Basmati rice
basmati rice ; Exports of Basmati rice increased by 14 percent to $ 2.59 billion in the first six months of the current financial year, compared to $ 2.27 billion in the first six months of the last financial year. There has been a significant decline in the export of dairy products. According to the Agricultural Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), total agricultural exports fell 11 percent to $12.19 billion.
Basmati exports increased by 6.58 percent in terms of quantity to 23 lakh tonnes. Non-Basmati exports declined by 15.40 percent in value terms to $2.27 billion. Non-Basmati exports have declined as the government has imposed export controls to increase domestic availability.
In volume terms, non-Basmati exports declined to 68.80 lakh tonnes in this period of the current year from 89 lakh tonnes in the first half of last year. Exports of dairy products have declined by more than 36 percent to $217 million. Wheat exports have declined by 98 percent to $21 million. APEDA data shows that exports of other pulses have also declined.
