Cow smugglers had an encounter with the police, arrested after being shot
Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh): Baraut police station of Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh arrested two members of a cow smuggling gang after an encounter near Baoli village. The police officer said that both the criminals are residents of Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar districts. The police team, led by DSP Ravi Ratan Gautam, was checking near Baoli village on a tip-off when they saw two suspects coming on a bike. He was signaled to stop. But he turned the bike and started running away.
The accused allegedly opened fire on the police. In police retaliation, two accused Kala alias Shakir and Mehtab were shot in the knees. The injured accused have been admitted to Baghpat District Hospital. Police said Kala alias Shakir and Mehtab will be arrested after they are discharged from the hospital. Both the accused were wanted in registered cases of attempt to murder and cow slaughter. A reward of Rs 15,000 each was announced by Baghpat Police on them. 2 pistols of 315 bore, 3 live cartridges, a kiosk and a stolen bike have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
