40 passengers injured, three in critical condition after train collides with rail equipment in Chicago

Chicago (USA). At least 40 passengers were injured, some of whom are in critical condition, when a passenger train collided with rail equipment in Chicago, USA on Thursday. Fire officials gave this information.

The Chicago Fire Department said the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train collided with snow removal equipment just before 10:35 a.m. near the Howard City A station on the city’s north side. The Yellow Line train was headed south from Skokie carrying 31 passengers and seven CTA employees when it collided with rail equipment, the Fire Department’s Second District Chief said.

Assistant Paramedic Deputy Chief Keith Gray said that 38 people, including four children, were injured, three of whom are in critical condition. At least 15 ambulances were dispatched to the scene. CTA officials said the cause of the accident is under investigation. Train services on the Red, Purple and Yellow Lines have been temporarily suspended due to the accident, the CTA said on its website.
