Couple dies tragically in horrific road accident
Mahasamund: A truck crushed a couple riding a two-wheeler at the local Nehru Chowk on Wednesday afternoon at 12.30 pm. The Rao couple died in the incident. On Thursday, the Rao couple had gone to the market on a two-wheeler to buy worship material for Tulsi Puja. They were returning after purchasing puja material and sugarcane from the market when a truck coming from behind hit them. Uma Rao (58 years) died on the spot after a truck wheel ran over her head. M Harikrishna Rao (68 years), who was driving a two-wheeler, was admitted to the district hospital. Where after first aid he was sent to Mekahara in Raipur. From here he was taken to AIIMS. Where M Harikrishna Rao died at 4.30 pm. Let us tell you that the house of Rao couple is situated on Station Para New Mandi Road. After the incident, the driver tried to run away with the truck, which was stopped two hundred meters away. The truck driver was taken into police custody.
The police have established a case and are investigating the matter. According to the information, Rao couple has been living in Mahasamund city for a long time. He is originally from Andhra Pradesh, while his close relatives live in Bilaspur. Deceased Harikrishna was a supervisor in KN Oil Industry. After the closure of the industry, families used to earn their living here by selling their ancestral property. His daughter Ritu got married in Indore. His son Suraj also went to Nainital to study hotel management. Since then the husband and wife were living alone. A few months ago, he was preparing to sell his property and settle in Indore. Meanwhile, both of them died in a road accident. There is mourning in the locality due to this accident. The traffic system in the city is in bad shape. The signal at the spot has been closed for a month. Traffic jawans are not regularly present at the spot. Here, one and a half years ago, high school student Kamla Dewangan died after being run over by a truck. After every accident, the traffic police shows promptness only for four days, after which the team remains busy in VIP duty, outer patrolling and checking of Indian vehicles. Apart from this, citizens are also not aware of traffic rules. Random parking on the road, keeping sign boards of shops spread out on the road, citizens are seen ignoring traffic rules.
