404 cases of dengue confirmed in Goa this year
Panjim: A total of 404 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported in the state from January to October this year, compared to 400 during the same period last year.
According to data provided by the National Vector-Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) cell of the Directorate of Health Services, 101 cases were reported in the state in October this year, while 90 cases were reported during the same period last year.
Of the 101 cases, 88 cases were reported in North Goa district while 13 cases were reported in South Goa district.
In South Goa, two cases were reported in Margao, four in Vasco, two in Ponda, one in Shiroda, one in Consolim, two in Cortalim and one in Lutolim.
In North Goa, 10 cases in Panaji, 17 in Mapusa, 14 in Candolim, 4 in Pernem, 1 in Aldona, 2 in Bicholim, 1 in Valpoi, 2 in Casarvan, 8 in Siolim, 3 in Colvale, 10 in Sankhelim, Porvorim. 1 case was reported in Mayem, 3 in Chimbel and 9 in Saligao. ,
As far as chikungunya is concerned, one confirmed case was reported in the state in the month of October, while six cases were reported in the same month last year.
From January to October this year, six cases of chikungunya were recorded in the state, while 106 cases were recorded during the same period last year.
“There was a rise in chikungunya cases in Margao, Curtorim but this year we are in a better situation. So we worked hard and focused on source reduction drives, receptacle collection drives, awareness activities etc. This helped us control the rise in cases. This also helped control dengue cases in South Goa,” Dr Kalpana Mahatme, health officer, Directorate of Health Services, National Vector Borne Disease Control, told O Heraldo.
