Man arrested for importing 7857 grams of ganja
Mumbai: The Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) of the Customs Department, Import, on Saturday arrested a 61-year-old Borivali resident for importing 7857 grams of cannabis plant. The agency is now investigating from where the consignment was imported and the people who were to receive the consignment.

According to Customs, an import consignment was examined by officials of Import Shed, Airport Cargo Customs (ACC), Mumbai on November 17 and 18 during routine checking; As a result, a total of 7857 grams of flower or fruit heads of the hemp plant described as Ganja/Marijuana were recovered. It was seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
On 18 November, the statement of the suspect and two others associated with the customs clearance agency was recorded by Customs. Additionally, on the same day, searches were also conducted at the office of the customs clearing agency and the delivery address provided by the importer.
The investigation has revealed the involvement of more people
According to officials, it was revealed that the accused failed to carry out KYC verification of the importer’s documents and also to ascertain the genuineness of the importer. The said facts state that the accused is involved in import of prohibited substance and has violated the provisions of the NDPS Act. The investigation conducted so far has revealed the involvement of other persons in the import, purchase and sale of marijuana.
