Taxi driver drowned after car fell into river in Sarmanas
Bicholim: A 26-year-old taxi driver drowned after the car he was driving fell into the river at the Sarmanas Ferry Point in Bicholim on Tuesday evening. Police have identified the victim as Yatin Mayekar of Dabdaba, Bicholim.
The incident occurred when Mayekar was going from Mayem Residency to Karmali railway station to drop a family, which included Amit Korgaonkar, his wife and their minor son, from Mumbai.
When they reached near Sarmanas ferry point in Pilgao around 6 pm, Mayekar lost control of the vehicle and the car fell into the Mandovi river. However, Korgaonkar and his family managed to get out of the car before it slipped and fell into the river.
With the help of local people, Mayekar’s body was taken out of the vehicle and taken to the Community Health Center (CHC), Bicholim, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Bicholim police conducted an investigation panchnama and sent the body to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim for post-mortem. A case has been registered under section 174 of CrPC and it is being investigated by PSI Vikesh Hadfadkar under the guidance of Bicholim PI Rahul Naik.
