Leopard trapped in a well was rescued and put in a cage
Kannur: A leopard trapped inside a well in Peringathur was rescued safely after hard work on Wednesday. After trapping the leopard, the locals picked up the wild animal halfway so that the forest officials could kill it with a tranquilizer. Moments after the tranquilizer shot, the leopard became stunned and fell asleep. This helped the local people and forest officials to lift the animal and take it to the cage.
On Wednesday, the leopard accidentally slipped into the well of a house under construction. The land was owned by Sudhi, a native of Aniyaram. The incident took place on Wednesday morning at 10 am. It is reported that the leopard will soon be taken to Wayanad, where it will be released in the lush green forests.
Two and a half gallons of water was taken out from the well before the DFO ordered the firing of tranquilizer darts to save the leopard from drowning. The tranquilizer dart was administered under the leadership of Wayanad veterinarian Ajesh Mohandas. According to forest officials, the leopard might have crossed the nearby river to enter the human habitation.
