Maichaung storm becomes active over Bay of Bengal, alert issued
Ranchi. Many coastal areas are on high alert due to the formation of a low pressure area over the south-east Bay of Bengal and southern Andaman Sea. After the arrival of Cyclone Midiri in the northeastern states, now another storm is brewing in the Bay of Bengal. The Japan Meteorological Agency then announced that a new low pressure system was imminent. This is the fourth cyclone of this year and it is likely to hit India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Cyclone Michon is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours.
Today, on December 1, the speed is expected to increase from 50 to 60 km/h to 70 km/h. On December 2, the speed will increase from 60 to 70 km/hr to 80 km/hr. Meanwhile, avoid southeast Bay of Bengal till December 2. “Mai Chon” may peak on December 2. During this period the wind speed can reach 80 km/hour. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible over the islands today (December 1). At the same time, the Odisha government has warned seven coastal districts of the state about the storm in the South Andaman Sea. Amid the cyclone warning, the Odisha government has issued a warning for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts.
