Drug smuggler dies in police firing
Rangia: A drug smuggler was killed and five people, including a police personnel, were injured when police opened fire on three drug smugglers at Agiathuri near Amingaon in Kamrup district on Sunday.
According to Kamrup Additional SP Kalyan Kumar Pathak, when three drug smugglers wanted to cross Agiathuri in a luxurious car, the police led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak stopped the car. After this the smugglers opened fire on the police from the car, in which constable Hima Das was injured. The police retaliated and killed a hawker named Salam of Hatigaon, Guwahati and injured two other peddlers, Hiranya Thakuria and Faizul Haq. Two other local people were also injured during the firing. These are Noor Islam and Rebti Bharali. He was admitted to Narayana Hospital and later shifted to GMCH. Police recovered a bag full of suspected drugs from the vehicle. The hawkers’ vehicle hit several vehicles in that area. Police said that the situation is now under control.
