2,135 water body rejuvenation projects approved from 2021, Center informs Parliament

New Delhi: A total of 2,135 water body rejuvenation projects worth Rs 3,802 crore have been approved by the Center under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 from 2021, the urban affairs ministry informed Parliament on Monday.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore said that 35 states and union territories have adopted the provision of rainwater harvesting in their respective building bylaws as suggested by the Model Building Bylaws. . Law (MBBL) 2016.

MoS Kishore informed that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA), through its national missions, including Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and AMRUT 2.0, is supporting the efforts of state governments to manage water crisis. Is supporting.

AMRUT 2.0 was launched on October 1, 2021, covering all statutory towns in the country to ensure universal coverage of water supply and make cities ‘water secure’. The center aims to provide tap drinking water to every household by 2024.

“So far, in AMRUT 2.0, 2,135 water body rejuvenation projects worth Rs 3,802 crore have been approved by MoHUA. An aquifer management plan will also be prepared to focus on maintaining positive groundwater balance in urban aquifer systems,” said MoS Kaushal Kishore.
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) scheme was launched on October 1, 2021 for a period of 5 years from FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26.
AMRUT 2.0 is designed to provide universal coverage of water supply through functional taps to all households in all statutory towns in the country and coverage of sewerage/septage management in 500 towns included in the first phase of the AMRUT scheme.

Giving details about AMRUT, the minister said states and union territories have closed 813 projects worth Rs 2,999 crore, out of which 739 projects worth Rs 1,864 crore have been completed, resulting in closure of 3,416 water logging points and other 372 water logging has ended. Removal of logging points is underway.
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was launched on 25 June 2015 in selected 500 cities and towns across the country.

The Mission focuses on infrastructure development in the areas of water supply, sewerage and septage management, storm water drainage, green spaces and parks and non-motorized urban transport in selected cities and towns. The mission covers a set of urban reforms and capacity building.

“Under AMRUT, urban and local bodies of the states can undertake rain water harvesting projects under the water supply sector as per their assessment or requirement. MoHUA approves the State Annual Action Plans submitted by the States. Under the storm water drainage area in Amrit,” Kishore replied.

Furthermore, the minister said that so far 1,222 kilometers of drains have been laid and work on laying 401 kilometers of drains is underway.
“States and UTs have undertaken 7 rain water harvesting projects worth Rs 9.19 crore, out of which 4 projects worth Rs 3.42 crore have been completed (1 in Delhi and 3 in Lakshadweep) and 3 projects worth Rs 5.77 crore (Kerala) Are in progress. ,” mentioned in the written reply.
