Punjab begins ‘decisive war’ against drugs: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann

The minister principal of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, said on Tuesday that his government has launched a “decisive war” against drugs and ordered police agents to intensify the fight against the menace.

After the meeting, DGP Yadav said that Mann had asked the police to concentrate on the big drug traffickers and that their properties should be confiscated. The performance of each district police chief will be reviewed. “What amounts are being registered from the FIR… the amount of drugs being recovered and confiscated from properties”, said the DGP while sharing details about the meeting with the CM. In the meeting, he informed the CM that the properties worth 105 million rupees worth of drugs should be given by the officers to the maintenance of law and order and no stone should be left unremoved, said Mann.

They should take “the most severe measures” against organized crime and they should make efforts to control and resolve cases of extortion and extortion, Mann implored the officials.

The DGP said that the CM emphasized that the police response to organized crime should be efficient.

The CM was informed that the police registered 117 FIRs and arrested 150 people in extortion cases this year.

“But the CM issued strict instructions and said that extortion calls will continue and that the police should prepare. There should be actions and punishments exemplary in incidents of extortion calls”, said the head of the state police.

Mann said that the SSPs should conduct field visits and resolve the problems of the public by interacting with them, according to the statement.

This will instill a feeling of confidence among the public that will be useful for the police to resolve issues related to the public in general, said Mann.

The DGP said it had concluded a detailed discussion on the problems in the jails, including the supply of infrastructure, manpower, equipment, technological updates and mobile interference solutions needed. He informed the CM that a sum of Rs 20 million was released for police vehicles in the border areas, said Yadav. They are installing closed-circuit television cameras in the border areas, while the intelligence and cyber crimes agencies are being modernized with a disbursement of Rs 110 million, said the DGP. “The government’s expectation is that the police will act in a professional manner”, said the DGP. Mann also tortured agents who investigated the threat of illegal arena extraction, if there was one, in areas under his jurisdiction.
