A massive fire broke out in a tractor while threshing paddy.
Lakhanpur : This afternoon, a tractor suddenly caught fire while threshing paddy in village Kunwarpur under Lakhanpur development block of Surguja district. Within no time, the fire took a fierce form and due to its grip, tractors and thresher machines along with paddy worth lakhs of rupees kept in the field were burnt to ashes. Around 12 noon on Thursday, a tractor that was threshing in the field suddenly caught fire, due to which all three tires of the tractor were completely burnt to ashes, half of one tire was burnt, while the tires on both sides of the thresher were completely burnt. It was reduced to ashes and crops of about 2 to 3 acres were completely burnt to ashes. The reason behind the fire has not been known yet, but prima facie it is being said that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the tractor’s battery.
Village head Subran’s tractor and thresher along with farmer Shivcharan’s paddy was burnt to ashes. This has caused loss worth lakhs of rupees. The farmers of Kunwarpur village had built a barn nearby, while paddy from another place was brought and kept in the same barn nearby. The paddy kept in the barn was being threshed. Meanwhile, it is suspected that the straw caught fire due to a spark from a short circuit. By the time the farmer came to know about the fire, the fire had spread rapidly. When nearby people raised alarm, villagers and farmers tried to control the fire. By then the paddy and straw were caught in the fire. About two to three acres of farmers’ crops along with tractors and threshers were burnt to ashes. At the same time, no one informed the fire brigade, and despite efforts, the fire could not be controlled. Crops of other farmers were not kept in the nearby fields and barns. Around 250 to 300 loads of paddy kept in the barn were burnt to ashes in the fire. The fire could not be controlled somehow due to lack of water.
